| OBJECTIVE: |
To lobby on behalf of the
Indian-American community on issues such as immigration, affirmative action, education,
social security, Medicare, and welfare reform. Our goal is also to get more
Indian-Americans to participate in the political process from voting to running for
elected office
The Indo American Democratic
Organization (IADO) was founded in 1980 by a group of visionaries, in order to get Indian
Americans more involved in political process and advocate and represent the views of the
community.
|
|
|
| ACTIVITIES: |
| IADO is a grass roots
organization that has conducted voter registration drives, political education forums,
such as "Anatomy of a Political Campaign", and has met with numerous elected
officials over the years to advocate for the Indo American community's views on issues
such as immigration, affirmative action and welfare reform. The members have volunteered
countless hours over the years on campaigns ranging from local aldermanic, mayoral and
gubernatorial candidates, to Congressional races. IADO members have also served on various
Asian Advisory committees at the state and local level, and have been some of the first
Indians from Illinois to be appointed as delegates to Democratic Convention. |

| MISSION: |
To enhance and
enrich the lives of the people by offering a Club for positive educational, recreational
and social experiences.
|
| OBJECTIVES: |
The purpose of
this club is to provide fun for all age groups throughout the year at the same time
keeping our next generation informed about India and all its good and not so good things.
Also the hope is to encourage visiting relatives to come to this club and enjoy themselves
rather than feel lonely at home.
Creation of a
club to provide these services needs both substantial financial resources and a strong
community support. The effort is now directed at bringing about awareness among the Indian
community for the need for such a club and to build a strong base from which the club can
be launched at a future date.
To make a start
with available resources, the club will now function as a "virtual" club through
the web page. The club will strive to place at the disposal of the community information
about happenings in India, the Indian community in the US and Indian community in the
Greater Seattle area. Through the use of chat rooms and message boards we encourage
participation between members of Indian community on issues important to the community.
One of the objectives is to create a library which will become an excellent resource for
members of our community interested in studying Indian literature, art and culture. As we
expand our reach and membership we will strive to acquire a physical site to carry out our
activities.
In the near future
the club will be embarking on providing avenues for discussions on topics of local
interest. It is also proposing to start an open-end page which will include articles from
leading members of Indian Community in the United States and others on matters of interest
to Indians. |
