Abdool Raouf Bundhun Vice President Mauritius

Among those Indians who have made their mark beyond the boundaries of India are few and among them is Vice President of Mauritius Abdool Raouf Bundhun. Abdool Raouf has been consistently playing a key role in bringing the Hindu and Muslim communites together.

Abdool Raouf's roots to India can be traced to a small district lying on the borders states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. His attachment with his mother land dates back to his ancestors who migrated to Mauritius in 1866. He has studied upto secondary level and then joined the civil services in the department of social welfare.

Seeing the pathetic condition of poor people and with a relentless energy to service the people Abdool Raouf left the job as a civil servant and joint politics at a tender young age under the ageis supervision of Ramagoolam. He was elected to the Parliament at the age of 27 and was made the Minister for Youth and Sports.

Before taking up his assignment as Vice President he served as Ambassador to France. Abdool Raouf Bundhun is recognised for his untiring contribution in promoting India’s image and epitomising the values of secularism and social justice.

Abdool Raouf Bundhun has been constitued the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman in 2006 which is constituted by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs in conjunction with the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, to honor exceptional and meritorious contribution.
